A piece of history…

My (step) father, Owen Jones, created this blog, Megan Publishing Services, in 2013. It was shortly after he had written the first couple of volumes of The Megan Series, and it was meant as a vehicle for that series alone. The logo is the cartoon characterisation of the Megan in the series

He already had websites for his other books such as Behind The Smile and The Eternal Plan – Revealed and a personal catch- all called Welsh Products Online.

However, as his book real estate grew, and it happened very quickly, he decided to use the Megan blog to represent all his books. So, he rebranded it Megan Publishing Services.

Websites and blogs appertaining to specific series are now not being renewed when they expire. The rebranding of the blog / website has not seemed to matter. Well, to no-one except Facebook, which has labelled Megan The Misconception dot com as a spammer. It’s unfathomable!

In fact, people seem to have taken the site and the series to their hearts, even though we have rebranded The Megan Series as The Psychic Megan Series. We did this because it is more evocative of what the theme of the series really is. Megan is, after all, a psychic teen.

In 2020, he handed this blog over to me so that he could concentrate on writing.

Search Terms for MPS

Another interesting fact is that the three most popular search terms used to find our blog in order of usage are:

1] megs publishing services

2] meg’s publishing services

3] megan publishing services

People looking for us used the first search term eight times more than the third one! I am proud of that in a strange sort of way. I find it touching that people think of our blog in those endearing terms and, that the search engines accept the compliment.

Amazing, or what?

MPS and #MPS

When speaking about our blog, most people refer to it as MPS, but I have so far failed to make the search engines associate the acronym with us. A search on MPS comes up with boring ‘Members of Parliament’. Likewise, searching for #MPS on Twitter reveals posts about MP’s.

Still, I won’t stop trying to get this blog associated with MPS!

Publishing Services

I’ll take this opportunity to explain briefly what Megan Publishing Services actually does. It has two aspects:

1] Readers: we are showcasing about 800 books on this site. Owen Jones has written fifty-three stories and 125 manuals. All of the stories, and some of the manuals have been translated and / or narrated making up the 800 books mentioned above. For example, the first volume of The Psychic Megan Series now exists in 34 languages.

2] Writers: except for the basic writing skills that one learns at school, Owen Jones learned and taught himself how to write books. How to get them translated, narrated and published, and most importantly, how to get them in front of readers who might want to buy them. He is willing to share that knowledge with other (would-be) authors. He is also offering the said 125 manuals as niche PLR articles for writers to use in their own online publications in several languages.

The Rôle of PLR in Internet Marketing

The Internet has been around for more than twenty-five years now, but there are still a lot of novice or would-be sales people who don’t realise that Internet marketing is basically the same as any other type of marketing, except that you have more possibilities and that it can be cheaper.

Cheaper? Cheaper to reach more people who might be interested in whatever you have to sell – your potential customers – and on an industrial scale. Traditionally, a salesperson would be advertising to the inhabitants of his or her town. Television increased the scope to nationwide, but the Internet has made that global.

If you are a one-man band, this potential can be daunting, and you will soon come to understand that you are just not able to source your goods; create and maintain your website; write sales literature for it; take orders and dispatch them; deal with inquiries, complaints and returns; plus maintain records for tax purposes, stock, etc., etc., all on your own. You will soon decide that you need help.

There are two ways to go: taking on (more) staff, or outsourcing work.

Taking on staff will free you up to learn about corporation tax, sales taxes, payroll, income tax, workers’ rights, health and safety, and other employment laws, whereas outsourcing will only mean a little more paperwork, It will actually create more time for you.

What you outsource is obviously up to you, but I am going to recommend that one of the things that you could outsource quickly and cheaply is the writing of your sales material and website content. By ‘website’ here, I am including the far more interactive and responsive blog. This is the easiest and cheapest way of getting your Internet-based business up and running quickly.

If you have gone down this route, like it or not, you are now an Internet Marketer with a mail order business. Congratulations!

There are five basic points that every Internet Marketer has to to learn about the mail order business in order to increase their profits:

  1. that the Internet is just another (or perhaps the most superior) vehicle for direct response marketing, but it contains within itself the potential to make you rich! However, because the marketplace is so huge, and therefore has many participants in it, it evolves extremely quickly.

  2. that there are hardly any markets where fashion or current trends do not play a rôle, and you will need to keep abreast of those fast-changing trends

  3. that prices move quickly, some tend to rise, whereas those in older technology fall

  4. international law changes – bans, embargoes, tariffs and trade wars are becoming more and more common

  5. it has never been easier to reach so many people so quickly

When you have sorted these obstacles out, you may like to outsource your marketing as well as drop-shipping, but in the beginning, you will probably need to provide your own marketing material. This raises two questions: do you have the talent to write it, and, if so, do you have the time to write it?

If not, then again, you have two possible solutions: either hire someone to write bespoke articles for you, or find relevant off-the-peg articles and modify them to suit your needs.

The name given to these off-the-peg articles is PLR, which stands for Public Label Rights, and once again, there are two sorts: the first kind is usually free, but old articles that have been around for quite some time, and can be spotted on numerous sad-looking blogs; and the second, so-called fresh material, which has to be bought, although it is usually fairly cheap. Both kinds are often bundled into niche packages, and should be fine-tuned to perfectly suit your business.

The big difference is that the articles that have been used hundreds of times will need a lot of re-writing since so many variations already exist, whereas the the second can be turned around a lot more quickly.

Since these niche packages of PLR often cost less than $10 for a set of ten articles, it is hardly worth going for the free option, because your time is worth more than the cost of rewriting a free article as extensively as would be necessary to render it unique.

What sort of niche PLR packages are there? The range is unbelievable, there will not be much that a person can sell that will not be covered by a group of PLR articles somewhere. You will need to type something like: “[your product] PLR articles” (with the inverted commas) into a search engine. However, if you want to dive right in, even if it’s only to have a look at some examples of niche PLR packages, you could do worse than try Megan Publishing Services (http://meganthemisconception.com).

Megan Publishing Services has fresh PLR for Internet Marketing purposes organised into 125+ niche packages of about fifteen articles of roughly 500-600 words a piece, which is the recommended size for an Internet article. Any smaller and the search engines might ignore it, and too much longer and the reader might give up before the end, modern attention spans being what they are.

Once you have your finely-tuned, modified article, you should place it on your website, and promote that page to your previous customer list, your website followers and the social media. After a few days, when the search engines know that the article originated from your website, you could copy it to whichever other locations you have deemed fit. These are probably specific to the industry you have chosen to market to: games, women’s fashion, auto accessories, or whatever. You might also like to post the article to an Article Directory, which is a repository for pieces that the author is willing to share with other website owners. In effect, the other webmasters reprint your article on their site as a free guest article, but we’ll leave that topic for another day.

Quick Blog or Website

In this article, I will show you how to set up a quick blog on your own using pre-designed templates for the site and the content. The first thing that you will need is a host for your publication – somewhere which will store and display it.

Professionals pay for this blogging platform, but many others do not. The decision is yours and can be reversed later. Basically, you can find an ‘unlimited’ host for $5 p/m or you can find free blog sites like WordPress, Blogger or Weebly (and many others).

So, now you have a host. You may want to blog on your own domain name, but you can do this later and your host will explain how to do it. Now you need to follow the hosting site’s step-by-step instructions (in an easy-to-use wizard) to set up the basic style of your site (choosing from a variety of themes, colours, fonts, etc).

This can take ten minutes (or longer the first time), then proceed to PLR Books on this site and look at the 120+ example sites in the left navigation bar. It will open in a new window. Decide what you would like to write about and click the link there to ‘PLR Content’, which will bring you back to this blog – see the title bar).

Dig down through the menus to find the niche content PLR ebook pack that best suits your intention. There are 140+ there and all but one contains 15 (or more) 500-600 word articles on the subject of the pack’s title. So, choose the five most relevant articles for your subject and upload them as blog/website pages.

That leaves you with at least ten more to use in promotional ways. For example, add them to your site one at a time or add them to article directories with active backlinks about which you can click site to learn more. This is quite beneficial as it overall increases the traffic on the site as the outbound links leads back to similar post belonging to the same site.

Setting up the site itself is very easy. If you pay, your host will have website and blog templates free for your use, and so will the free hosts, although the choice may be more limited.

The first time, it might take you all day to set up your blog and launch it, but after that you’ll be able to create two or three a day (and sell them). The PLR niche content will cost you $7.99

This is an easy business for anyone who is willing to learn and invest a little time and money.

Why Every Webmaster Needs PLR Content

Just to get one thing clear from the start, PLR stands for ‘public limited right’, and is a short way of describing an article that you have acquired, free or at a cost, which you have permission to use within certain confines. Needless to say, free PLR content is usually awful stuff written by people for whom English is not their mother tongue.

So, why do I say that every webmaster should have a pack of PLR on the hard drive? The cynical will point to the fact that I have over a hundred niche content PLR ebooks containing at least fifteen articles of five to six hundred words each, and that is true. It is the content that I wrote for websites that I took down in order to concentrate on writing novels. I used to have 144 websites.

However, every experienced webmaster will know that the gap between your last post and starting to slip down the search engine rankings is very short, and getting shorter. Depending on your niche, it can be hours. So, what happens if you are a one-man band and need a break?

A family crisis, personal illness, or a desire to go on holiday with the love of your life will wreck your SE rankings, unless you have a strategy in place. This is when I suggest that a pack or two of relevant niche PLR content can come to the rescue and save the day or even the month.

Two packs could give you a month off, say at Christmas or in the summer.

‘Be Prepared’ is the watch phrase of the wise and at $7.99 per pack, it is not going to break the bank. Call it accident or holiday insurance, if you like and write the cost off against your tax bill. It is a legitimate business expense after all.

When you don’t have time to write your own content, post one of my articles instead to protect your website’s status.

Do you have a pension fund and do you think that you can rely on it to provide for all your retirement needs? Do you even trust your company or the government not to dip into it before you can? If most of us are honest, we don’t have a lot of faith in our pension fund, do we?

No.

So, I am going to propose a way to regain the reins of your future finances and it will only cost you $20 per annum and most probably nothing after the first year.

It sounds too good to be true, eh? Well, just stick with me a while longer and I will reveal all completely free of charge!

This system works best the earlier you start it, but assuming you don’t expect to be dead within ten years, it is well worth giving it a go.

Websites and blogs can make a lot of money, however most don’t and so most people give up on them. It is quite hit and miss when choosing a subject for your attention, so you need to have a lot of them, like seedlings and regularly thin them out.

Let’s say that you made one every three months for year or two. That may sound like a lot of work, but there are many free blog sites where setting up your own blog is simply a question of filling in a questionnaire and choosing a colour scheme.

The rub is that you need content for that site. But what if you could buy that for a reasonable price? Most starter websites and blogs only have five pages.

You could buy an ebook of niche articles targeted on your topic and drip feed them into your blog. It would take a morning to create your first blog or website and add five articles from your ebook of PLR articles.

(PLR articles are those which you buy and have a license to use in your own publication).

So, my suggestion is to:

1) Think of a subject you are interested in

2) Choose a name for your site and find a free host (WordPress, Blogger, Weebly)

3) Find a source of relevant PLR articles

4) Create your blog

5) Apply to Adsense and others for accounts to sell relevant items and earn money

Let’s say that you earn $100 in that first quarter. Your outlay will have been $10 for the blog name and $10 for the PLR, so you will have made 400% profit in three months or a whopping 1,600% p.a.!

Take $20 of this and do it again, and the rest you can put into a traditional pension fund, if you like.

So, after a year, you are earning $400 p.a which is not bad for four mornings work, is it?

If you started doing this when you were 30 years old, you would have 30x4x400 or $48,000 p.a by the time you were sixty and thirty years’ of profits in a pension fund!

Could you live on that?

Not all of your bright ideas for blogs will work, naturally, but you give them a year and ditch them if they are not paying their way. On the other hand, some will produce stellar returns, and all you have to do is tend them like a loving gardener.

How PLR Can Be Useful for Authors

PLR can be very useful to authors, because they are such good writers. That may sound rather odd, but sometimes you just want to put content on a site without having to do all the leg work. If you can trust the source of your PLR, this gives authors a golden opportunity to just download some PLR, adjust it to suit the circumstances and up load it to the web.

How difficult can that be for a writer?

The PLR on this web site comes in niche packages of 15+ 500-word articles which have hardly been used anywhere else. In fact, some have never been used anywhere else. That is not the point though, before PLR is put on a decent web site, it should be re-written as a matter of course, so that it is stamped with the site-owner’s personality and becomes unique.

How would an author of novels use PLR?

Every book has a theme and a genre, so an author exploring the use of PLR could select the niche pack that most closely resembles the content of the book / novel in question, and ‘bend’ the content to provide backup material for the book. These articles can be posted to the book’s web site and / or to article directories in order to garner backlinks to the author’s or book’s web site.

This strategy allows the writer to spend more time writing creatively and less time writing background, which is a necessity for unknown writers these days. Nowadays, it is no longer good enough to have written a book. If no-one has ever heard of you, you have to create a ‘buzz’.

One, and arguably the best, way of creating a buzz, is to write ‘around’ the subject matter of the book in question. An example: I have three books based on Lek, a bar girl in Pattaya, Thailand, so I have written articles on her youth, her village, Pattaya and Thailand.

If your main character is a cotton mill worker, you could write articles on the cotton industry, cotton slavery, northern England, the southern states, looms etc, etc. Anything of interest that will get people thinking about the subject of your book.

When you publish these articles off your own site, you add a by-line with at least one link back to your book’s site or where it can be bought. Good articles will be picked up by other web masters looking for useful content and your piece may be seen by thousand – which means that the link to your book will be too.

It all depends on how much time you have and whether you can see the importance of what I am saying.

Maybe you are not sure what Private Label Rights Articles, commonly called PLR, are, so let’s ensure that we are talking about the same thing here. Private Label Rights Articles are articles that you hold the right to publish as your own, but which were written by someone else.

The right to use the private label rights articles as your own may have been conferred on you as a gift or, more commonly, because you paid for them. There are two main points that affects the value of, and so, the uses for PLR:

1] the quality of the private label rights articles and

2] how many times they have been used.

In turn, the quality of the private label rights articles is affected by the style and quality of the writing; spelling; research; etc ..  PLR is often sold to many webmasters. If the PLR that you possess has been sold to only a few people, all well and good, but if thousands of people have used it, well, Google is not going to take much notice of your copy.

This situation does not restrict the uses for PLR, since it has a simple solution. Just rewrite the PLR articles in your own style. Why buy an article, if you are going to have to rewrite it?

You may ask, but, if you trust its author, then the research will already have been done and it is considerably easier for most people to rewrite than to write an original piece.

Not only that, but if English is not your mother language, it is far simpler to change words, but keep the grammar than it is to write the whole thing from scratch. This is one of the best uses for PLR.

Other uses of PLR is in newsletters and autoresponders, where you don’t care what Google thinks, because it has no access to these mailings. For example, if you had a lit of subscribers who are interested in dogs, you could buy a few articles on dogs from a PLR writer and programme them to be sent out when you are on holiday or otherwise too busy to write articles of your own.

A pack of 15 articles would effectively give you 15 weeks off work, which is quite a lot, I am sure you will agree. It helps enormously if the writer of the PLR organises the articles into tight niche subjects.

One of the great uses for PLR is getting a web site up quickly. For example, if you wanted to have a web site selling St Valentine’s Day Gifts, but you had left if a little late (or could not write the content for yourself for the reasons given above), you could buy a pack of PLR on, say, romantic gifts, use five articles to create a nice little five-page web site, put five in an autoresponder for subscribers and place five on article directories with links back to your new site.

How long would it take to set that up? Half-a-day? A whole day? Well, that’s not bad, is it? To have a whole web site, an autoresponder loaded with messages and articles getting you attention and backlinks in a day!

Of course, I would always recommend rewriting PLR, even if only a little, just to put your own slant on it, but when you can get a dozen or more good 500-600 word PLR articles for less that $10, what have you got to lose?

Start thinking of uses for PLR in your business today and save yourself some time.

PLR Articles and The Self-Employed

In this piece on PLR articles and the self-employed, we will choose a specific trades-person, say a carpenter, but the same principles apply equally well to any other self-employed tradesman or professional, such as computer engineer, lawyer and even dentist.

The basic concept is to use PLR articles that you have bought, possibly had written and use them in your advertising campaigns. If you have the time, you could write your own articles, but then, technically, you would not be using PLR in your advertising campaigns.

So, you need to find a reputable source of material. This can be difficult, so build a relationship with a writer who is prepared to do the necessary research and buy from him or her regularly. The best way of getting what you want is to suggest the titles yourself.

Go for a pack of fifteen, 500-word articles at a time because this will give your article marketing campaign a real punch and fifteen PLR articles are enough to do several other things with too which we will go into below. The articles should be useful, informative, but at 500 words, they will only give tantalising tastes of the subject matter.

The job of these PLR articles is to show that you know what you are talking about, not to teach the reader your professional skills! They should have the same tone as your web site and newsletter or blog, be that humorous or serious.

A carpenter can write on apprenticeship, tools, aspects of reading drawings, working on site, health and safety, customer relations, working in people’s homes, cleanliness, sharpening a chisel or saw, the different weights of hammers – there are dozens of topics for the self-emloyed, whatever jobs, trades or professions they have.

If you already have a web site, you can trickle-feed these articles into it at the rate of one a week. When they have been indexed by Google, say six weeks later, you can copy them to article databases with links back to your own web site in the author bio at the bottom, which will give you one-way backlinks to boost your sites rank.

If you do not have a web site, use five articles to create one. Add the articles to your newsletter too, because readers of that will probably very rarely go to your site, if they ever do – they don’t need to, do they?

The final stage is to create an ebook from the same PLR articles in order to reach a totally new audience again. You will have enough material for an ebook of about 8,000 words, so if you would prefer a longer book, get another batch of articles and when you have used them on your site and in your newsletter, you can add them to your book to raise it to 15-16,000 words, which you can sell on Amazon for $7-$10

You will soon recoup your outlay on the PLR articles from the sale of the books alone and you will be the author of a book on your chosen self-employed profession. You could publish one or two books a year and build yourself a worldwide reputation.

Children’s Uses For the Internet and PLR Articles

Would you like your children to be one step ahead of the other kids in their class? And even one or more steps in front of most adults in the country? They are enviable and lofty ideal, but they are also achievable, and the earlier you start, the further ahead they will be in both fields. If you are wondering what the catch is, I do not necessarily stand to make any money out of your achieving your goals at all. Read on and find out about children’s uses for the Internet and  PLR articles.

We all know that kids from rich families have a better start because of their advantage in education when at school and extra money when they want to enter the employment stakes, well, you can give your children similar advantages, even though you might be hard-up at the moment. This is because the technique that I will outline free of charge involves effort and pennies, rather than a bulging bank account.

The Internet is providing more income to more people every year than was ever predicted, and my scheme involves you and your children riding that gravy train for profit and, ultimately, financial security for your children. Here we go:

1) Find out from your children what their main interest is. It needs to be quite specific, for example, not just cars, or sports cars, but Mercedes Sports Cars. But it could also be Superman Comics, Miss Kitty, Fruit-flavoured Ice Cream, MUFC, Ladybirds, Copperhead Snakes, Knitting, Diabetes, Skiing … Do you get the idea? COST = ZERO

2) Think of a website title that best conveys that theme and check that it hasn’t already been taken by a like-minded investor. (You do this by searching online for a website host and following their instructions). When you have found a host, check their costs and term and conditions. Some will give you your first website free for a year as an enticement. Sign up with the company and register your website (domain) name. COST = $5 pm for hosting and $10 pa for the domain name

3) The host will provide you with a free blog in your chosen name. You are set to start. COST = ZERO

4) Write a 300-500 word article on the subject of your blog and post it. Repeat this step regularly (once a week, fortnight, month. Keep most of the articles strictly on your niche topic, but you can post a few that are broader in scope to attract a wider interest group. COST = ZERO

What are reasonable returns? Sites produce more as they mature (six months) and have more content to offer visitors, so let’s be cautious. Let’s say you will earn $10 pm for the first six months and $50 pm thereafter, which makes $350 in year one and $600 pa thereafter.

OK, not bad, but not great, eh?

What if you could build four sites a year, and started when your child was eight? That’s 40 websites. On his or her 18th birthday, 39 websites would be producing $600 each and one $350.

A total of $23,450 every year!

However, you will also have had nine years of fewer sites. In year nine 36 sites; in year eight 32 sites, etc, etc.

In other words, if you do not touch that income for the ten years, you could have a Grand Total of: about $100,000 in the bank plus the interest.

For a part-time job.

Plus, you and your children will have learned how to create websites and promote them on the Internet. Knowledge that a marketing major at school is paying to learn. Learning is best when you do it in practice, everyone knows that.

No college fee worries, no mortgage worries, and financial independence.

Of course, some sites might earn less than I predicted, but others will earn more for sure.

Give it a go, what have you got to lose? And you will be teaching your children at the same time.

I suppose that it seems quite normal to think that PLR (articles that can be rebranded as one’s own) are only suitable for on line use, because that is where they are used most often, but if you think about the amount of writing a business person does every month, merchants can use PLR  to help there too.

If you have the right PLR, that is, because one of the biggest benefits of PLR is that it reduces the amount of research that the end-writer has to do. Therefore, you have to be able to trust the original writer of the PLR to have done the research for you.

Rewriting PLR

Subsequently rewriting the PLR and making it your own is very easy, when you have an article to adapt in front of you. This is a very handy approach if English is not your first language and you want your writing to sound fluid and natural.

So, let’s say that you have a shop in the high street selling, er, gardening implements, for example. Wouldn’t your shop stand out from the crowd if you could hand out free leaflets on things related to gardening?

‘How to build a garden fish pond’. ‘Caring for Koi Carp’. ‘How to deter mosquitoes from your patio’,  et cetera, et cetera? However, just because you sell garden implements, it doesn’t necessarily mean you know about the topics I just mentioned, does it?

Useful PLR

What could you do? Hire someone to write the articles for you? Go and learn about fish ponds? Or buy good PLR on fish ponds, reprint it and job done? Good PLR does not have to be expensive! You can get an ebook of fifteen 500-word  niche articles for less than $10.

At the rate of one a week, that is nearly three months promotional material for about 65 cents a week! And you would be the only one for miles or more who was bothering to do it.

Would that not give you an edge over your competitors?

Let’s say that you wanted to start selling your stuff on Amazon or eBay? You have fifteen ready-made articles that you can make your own with a little re-writing. Afterwards, you can post them around the Internet. Don’t forget to add links back to your Amazon or eBay account in the ‘author’s bio’ or by-line at the bottom of the article.

Any other ways merchants can use PLR?

What if you wanted a blog, web site or / and newsletter? No problem at all! It’s the same tactic, you can slightly rewrite your PLR and use them for the basic pages of your site. Then, you can send the others out to article directories for back links. Another tactic is to add them to your auto-responder and send them to your list since the readership will not be the same.

There are many ways shopkeepers and merchants can use PLR, good PLR, that is, in the on and off line world. However, it helps if you remember a few points:

1] PLR’s main purpose is to save the rewriter time (researching or / and learning English grammar)
2] You must buy good PLR from a reputable source
3] No matter how good the PLR is, you must read it through and at least change any expressions that you would not use or do not like. In other words, make it sound like you could have written it.

In these days of austerity and financial uncertainty, it is more important than ever to make use of every talent you have to extract an extra stream of income. If you enjoy carpentry, you can make objects for sale and likewise with many of the other hobbies and crafts, but if you are more interested in the Internet, the route can be more obscure.

Especially if writing is not your forte.

However, that need not be a stumbling block. Similarly if you would like to hit the English-speaking market, but English is not your mother tongue.

Time could also be a constraint, as it is on most hobbies. However, think of this: while flying kites is a great hobby, it earns no money, whereas running a blog on flying kites could do. Especially if it is informative and provides a service.

So, for most people, unfortunately, I think that unprofitable hobbies have had their day. It is time for those who love the Internet to use it to make money and not just surf.

Quite a lot has been happening at Megan Publishing Services over the last few days culminating in the following changes. Today, I want to report in this Site Overview Update that I finished:

1] transferring dozens of pages of useful information over from the now defunct site: kindle vs book RIP, I had that site for about five years.

2] listing all my books (novels, novellas and PLR niche content – 38 novels etc, and 95 PLR niche content ebooks. A total of 133 books)

3] writing and publishing a new PLR niche content book on teenagers’ second most favourite topic: acne and its  treatment. I also listed it for sale on Kindle, Lulu and Smashwords. This book has not yet been approved (but it will be today), so if you want to get the content for your website, get it first. It is such a common subject that I expect demand for this booklet of 15 x 500-600-word articles to be high. The content has come from one of my own websites that I have just taken down because I no longer have the time for it. The cost is $7.99

5] our new virtual assistants service and received our first enquiry.

That is the end of all the changes that were forced up me to comply with Google and Amazon’s on internal developments, plus a few ideas of my own to centralise the services that I have to offer.

Holidays – Khao Pansa

Today is the eve of one of Thailand’s biggest annual holidays in the original sense of the word as a holy day. Khao Pansa is the start of Thai Buddhism’s Lent. It is one of the four holidays that I can remember when people living away make a serious effort to go home to be with their immediate family. The others are the first of January; Songkhran from the 13th to the 15th of April (the old Thai New Year), and Mother’s Day (August 12th).

Our village is starting to fill up now, and a party has begun down the road. I can hear the music from the shop I’m sitting in.

I probably won’t get involved tonight, because I want to finish my site maintenance before the start of August, which gives me twenty-nine hours, then I’ll join in as well.

I love these holidays, because, although they don’t mean that much to me, I love to see people enjoying themselves. Perhaps I’ve become a jaded, grumpy old man. I hope not, but it is a distinct possibility.

I will probably use a large part of these holidays promoting my books and websites. July has been a very odd month for sales indeed, although I think each of the last three months has been unusual for one reason or another. July’s unique claim is that it is the only month since I started writing, that no-one, not one single person, in the whole of the United States, with its 250,000,000 inhabitants, has bought a book from my ‘Behind The Smile’ series, and that has not happened since I wrote the first one three and a half years ago.

Odd, eh? They have bough other books of mine, and Britain and the rest of the world s keeping its end up, but not the USA. It is unfathomable to me.

Some good news though, I have finished replacing all my old duff Amazon links a day early, and, left to my own devices tonight, I will finish moving the last of my PLR links to this website. That means that I will have completed all my site maintenance a day early, and I could begin to think of starting to write a new book.

Perhaps the sixth ‘Behind The Smile’, I get asked for a new one every week, although not from America.
